Alampur Subedar Malharrao Holkar Chattri Trust

Alampur Subedar Malharrao Holkar Chattri Trust

Major General His Highness Maharaja Yeshwant Rao Holkar of Indore, as the Ruler of the Holkar State, entered into a covenant to unite and integrate the territories of the Holkar State with and into the United State of Madhya Bharat in terms of the covenant made on April 22, 1948. In pursuance thereof, it was agreed between him, the Government of India, and the United State of Madhya Bharat under an instrument dated May 7, 1949, that a new financial arrangement would be established. In lieu of the land revenue of the Alampur Mahal—which had been originally ceded to the Ruler of the Holkar State for the maintenance of the Chhatri of Shrimant Maharaja Malharrao Holkar, the Founder of the Holkar Dynasty, at Alampur—the United State of Madhya Bharat (since succeeded by the State of Madhya Pradesh) shall pay to the Ruler of the Holkar State an annual cash sum in perpetuity. This sum is equivalent to the annual income from the land revenue of the villages in the Alampur Mahal, effective from June 16, 1948. It was further agreed that the receipts of this annual income be held and kept separately under a permanent trust, constituted in the manner specified hereinafter, to be applied for the above-mentioned purpose.

The State of Madhya Pradesh has ascertained that the annual income from the land revenue of the villages in the Alampur Mahal on the said date was Rs. 69,417/9/- (Rupees sixty-nine thousand four hundred seventeen and annas nine only).

Major General His Highness Maharaja Yeshwantrao Holkar of Indore passed away on or about December 5, 1961, and was succeeded by Her Highness Maharani Usha Devi, who has been recognized by the President as the successor and Ruler of Indore.
